INTRODUCTION TO HAND DRUMMING (Rhythm 101)

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!! Join us in this fun and relaxing class as we go over the basic hand techniques on West African, Haitian, and Cuban hand drums. After we are comfortable with how to play the drum, we will cover some basic rhythms and discuss the importance of time signatures and learn ways to identify them. This class is geared towards beginners and is extremely accessible. Drums will be available to use, but if you have your own djembe, ashiko, conga, or bougarabou, feel free to bring it. The cost is $20/class drop in or 10% discount if Paid Monthly
LEVEL 1 – ENSEMBLE PLAYING – Intro to polyrhythms and ensemble playing.

An ongoing class, we will continue to explore various rhythms from Africa and its diaspora. We teach our classes by learning individual parts of a rhythm, dividing into groups, then putting all of the parts together as an ensemble. $20/class drop in or 10% discount if Paid Monthly
LEVEL 2 – INTRODUCTION TO PHRASES – Drum Phrasing

If you are looking for more of a challenge, this class will include memorizing longer rhythmic pieces and playing at much quicker tempos as well as learning calls, breaks, and bell patterns. $20/class drop in or 10% discount if Paid Monthly
LEVEL 3 – INTRODUCTION TO SOLOING – Study contemporary and traditional solo phases and rhythmic structures.
