Bring your drum back to life with a new skin!

Drum skins can tear for a variety of reasons, but there’s no need to buy a new drum over a torn skin. If your skin has a tear, or even if you’re just not satisfied with the overall sound, we can help you find a new skin that will make your drum sound like new.

How do I keep my djembe safe and healthy?

  • Keep playing your drum. Playing your Djembe will allow the oils in your hands to condition the skin on your drum. Do not put anything on drum skin other than your hands. Do not play your drum while wearing rings. It can damage both the drum AND your rings. Playing your drum for a total of 30 hours or more after a reskin or new drum purchase, will help the skin and rope settle into position. I would suggest any tuning be done after this period.
  • Keep your drum out of the heat. Do not leave it in a car, warm room, in direct sun (unless the drum is low tuned with a loose skin), or near any other heat source, otherwise it may pop.
  • Be careful when tuning it. Always seek the advice of an experienced drum maker/repairer when planning on adding tension or tuning a Djembe. Old rope can break and, depending on which rope fails, you may need to replace the skin. Always check the rope integrity by eye before proceeding with a tune up. One or two knots at a time plus 10 hours of playing afterwards.
  • Protect your drum. Buying a good thick and solid drum hat is essential for protecting your drum. Buying a decent padded carry bag is a great investment. Amazon has many varieties for almost any size of drum.
